Artificial topiary trees

Artificial topiary trees - buying guide

Topiary is the art of clipping shrubs or trees into ornamental shapes. The term also covers plants that have been clipped in this way. Shaping and keeping a topiary is a lot of work and requires great skill, so an artificial topiary is a fantastic way to achieve the same look, without all the maintenance issues.

The majority of artificial topiary trees come ready assembled and the most you'll have to do is plug or screw the tree trunk into the base. Sometimes you'll be advised to fill the base with sand or rocks to give them weight. This is really helpful in keeping them from blowing over when the wind picks up! Occasionally, artificial topiary trees will actually need to be joined together but there is often just two sections to assemble.

Note that the trees are very often photographed in stylish pots, but these rarely come as part of the price. Although this might be a little disappointing at first, consider that it gives you the option of choosing the exact pots that you want.

Once you've chosen a design of topiary that you like, durability will be your biggest concern. Artificial topiary trees are usually quite pricey and so you'll want one that will give you years of enjoyment. Look for UV fade resistance as a faded topiary will look unrealistic and tacky.
