There’s something wonderfully smart about a pair of topiary balls. Hang one on either side of your front door and you instantly get that balanced, put-together look – without having to spend half your life trimming real topiary into matching shapes.

This pair of 30cm artificial lavender topiary balls combines rich green foliage with masses of little purple lavender flowers. Each ball contains approximately 100 lavender blooms and 206 leaves, mixing lighter and darker greens so the overall effect has more depth than a single-colour artificial plant.

They’re particularly lovely if you want to introduce purple into the garden without creating a huge, brightly coloured floral display. The lavender is scattered throughout the greenery, giving the balls a softer, cottage-garden feel while the perfectly rounded shape keeps them neat and contemporary.

You’re not limited to hanging them, either. The black chains can be removed so the topiary balls can be placed inside pots or planters instead. This is one of our favourite things about them: use them as a matching pair beside a doorway, pop them into tall planters on a patio, or position them on a balcony where maintaining real plants can be awkward. If you do want to hang them, each ball comes with its own 40cm triple steel hanging chain and hook. The three-point design supports the ball evenly, creating a tidy suspended display beneath a suitable wall bracket, pergola or veranda.

The balls arrive in two halves which click together. It’s worth taking a moment to line up the fixing points properly when assembling them; once joined, you can gently arrange the foliage and flowers to make the sphere look full and even.

Because the foliage is made from water-resistant PE and has UV protection to help resist fading, these are designed with outdoor display in mind. And unlike living lavender, they don’t require the right soil, a sunny position, watering or pruning to keep their rounded shape.

There’s another little advantage around patios and outdoor dining areas: artificial lavender gives you the look of lavender flowers without attracting bees and wasps to the plant. That makes these especially useful for adding greenery and colour close to a seating or dining area.
