Sometimes the part of the garden you most want to change is the fence you see every day from indoors. One customer bought this Welsh Green Screen ivy covering for exactly that reason: to hide an unattractive fence in the view from their kitchen. They found it straightforward to unfold and attach, and liked the improvement enough to buy another roll.

The selected screen measures 3m long by 1m high. It uses green artificial ivy-style leaves on a plastic backing and weighs approximately 1.2kg. You can fit it to a fence or railings to break up a bare surface, without having to find soil space for a living climber.

Rearrange the sections to suit the job

The roll has sections that can connect at either side, so you are not restricted to keeping the entire covering in one long strip. A reviewer liked the clip-together system because it allowed pieces to be separated or arranged above one another for a taller fence panel. Another found the sections easy to work with and join together.

The backing can also be cut to fit. Measure the area you intend to cover and sketch the arrangement before separating anything. A narrow gap, a short run of railing and a rectangular fence panel may all call for different layouts, even when they use the same amount of foliage.

Allow for the support and fixings

Cable ties are included, but the number may not be enough for every project. One customer reported receiving twelve and felt they needed considerably more for a secure, tidy installation. Another liked the colour match of the supplied ties and found the joins between panels strong. Have additional suitable fixings ready if your fence has widely spaced supports or needs fastening in several places.

How dense will it look?

Feedback on coverage varies. One buyer was pleasantly surprised by the density when they avoided pulling the covering to its full extent. A four-star reviewer thought the coverage was reasonably good but would have preferred more leaves. A more critical customer liked the backing yet found the foliage flimsy, with several leaves becoming detached during unpacking.

Check your roll when it arrives and arrange the leaves before judging the finished surface. It can soften a view, but the existing fence remains the supporting structure and some visibility through the foliage is normal.

For a quick improvement to a familiar view, the useful features here are the joinable sections and adaptable layout. Take your measurements, plan enough attachment points and position the foliage where its greener finish will make the most difference.
