A smaller room can still have a proper Christmas tree. This 5ft Alaskan pine from SHATCHI has the familiar tapered shape, green foliage and a welcoming glow, with a footprint that leaves a little more of the room for everyday life. It is a lovely option beside an armchair, in a dining room corner or as a second tree for the family decorations that never quite match your main colour scheme.

A manageable size with room to decorate

The assembled tree measures approximately 150cm high, including its stand, and 80cm across. Its 350 PVC tips give you individual places to hang decorations, while the more open spaces between the branches suit baubles with long loops and favourite hanging ornaments. This is a traditional artificial pine with flexible foliage, so its final appearance depends on how you arrange those tips.

Start with the lower branches and spread the smaller shoots in different directions. Bring some forward and angle others upwards to soften the outline. Taking care around the centre makes a noticeable difference; simply pulling the main branches down will leave a much flatter-looking tree. Customers particularly appreciate the fuller effect once the foliage has been opened out properly.

Warm lights already in place

There are 130 warm white LEDs fitted around the tree. They create a gentle background for gold, burgundy or natural wooden decorations, and look equally inviting with a jumble of family favourites. Eight lighting modes include a constant glow alongside effects such as slow fading, waves and twinkling, so you can choose a quieter evening setting or a more animated display.

The lights are pre-wrapped rather than separate strings you have to wind around from scratch. During assembly, locate the connections before spreading every branch and check that each connection sits securely. Owners value the simpler set-up, although some have found that the wiring and light spacing need a little attention as they arrange the foliage. That is easiest to do before adding ornaments.

Finishing touches for a cosy corner

A metal stand and plug are included, and the tree weighs approximately 3.5kg. Position it on a level indoor surface with enough space around the lower branches for the full 80cm spread. A tree skirt can soften the stand and provide a neat background for presents; decorations and a skirt are your own finishing touches.

Try a few larger baubles towards the centre, then smaller pieces near the tips, leaving the warm lights visible between them. The modest height also makes it easier to decorate without reaching far above your head. Other heights and lighting colours are available in this range if you need a different fit. At the end of the season, fold the branches gently around their wiring and keep the stand and plug together for next Christmas.
