This SPOTRAVEL pencil tree gives a festive display height while keeping the overall outline narrow. At 7ft tall, it can fill an empty corner or bring a vertical feature to a seasonal entrance display. It is supplied unlit, leaving you free to choose the lights and decorations that suit the setting.

The plain green foliage is useful if you like changing your Christmas colours from year to year. It can take a traditional red-and-gold scheme one season and a quieter collection of wood, cream and natural-looking details the next. There are no fixed berries or coloured lights dictating how the finished tree needs to look.

For indoor or outdoor decorating

The tree is suitable for indoor and outdoor decoration. Indoors, try it in a corner where a wider tree would interfere with furniture. Outside, choose a sheltered, level position and make sure it is securely supported for the conditions. A supplied stand is not a substitute for checking how a tall display will behave in wind.

Because the tree has no fitted lighting, any lights you add should be chosen for their intended location. An outdoor display needs outdoor-suitable lights and connections, used according to their instructions. Keep the route to a doorway clear and avoid positioning trailing cables where they could be caught underfoot.

Shape the PVC branches before dressing

The artificial needles are made from PVC and the tree comes with assembly instructions and an iron stand. Put the sections together first, then spread the branch tips carefully. Work around the tree rather than concentrating entirely on the front, especially if it will be seen from several directions.
