Make room for a white Christmas

A snowy tree can change the mood of a room without needing an elaborate collection of ornaments. This HOMCOM pencil tree has white flocking across its branches and a narrow outline that measures approximately 45cm across. It brings that wintery look into a small living room, bedroom or entrance corner without the spread of a conventional full-width tree.

This is the 5ft version, measuring approximately 152.4cm high. Its proportions leave a useful amount of wall visible around it, so it can sit comfortably near pictures or shelving. Allow additional space above the top branch if a favourite star or angel is part of your Christmas tradition.

An unlit tree to dress your way

There are no built-in lights. That gives you freedom to use the fairy lights you already own or choose a new set in the colour you prefer. Warm white against the flocking would create a soft evening glow, while a few coloured lights could give it a cheerful, more nostalgic feel.

The white finish is already decorative, so you do not need to hide every branch with tinsel. Try small silver baubles for a quiet scheme, or a few deep red ornaments that stand out against the pale foliage. Leave some open spaces between decorations so that both the snowy branches and individual pieces remain visible.

Open out the branches before decorating

Assembly involves fitting the tree sections together and positioning the bendable branches. The foliage is packed compactly for transport, so spend a little time separating the tips rather than judging its shape as soon as it leaves the box. Begin lower down, work towards the top and check the outline from several angles.

A metal base is supplied to support the tree. Assemble it on an even surface and check that the pole is seated correctly before putting ornaments on. Keep the finished display clear of a busy doorway or a chair that is pulled out frequently; a narrow tree is most useful when it also leaves comfortable room to move around it.

A small seasonal display with plenty of possibilities

The artificial plastic foliage is designed for repeated seasonal use. Its flame-resistant material still needs to be kept well away from candles, fireplaces and other naked flames. Use lighting intended for an indoor Christmas tree and follow the instructions supplied with those lights.

This compact size could serve as your main tree in a smaller home, or as a second display that gives another room its own festive character. After the holidays, remove the lights and ornaments you added, fold the branches gently towards the centre and store the sections somewhere dry.
