Description
This Aisamco pine bonsai is all about the sideways sweep of its branches. A low, twisting trunk supports a broad canopy of green needle-style foliage, with the longest branches reaching away from the centre. The effect is more like a small landscape than a conventional upright houseplant.
At approximately 19cm tall and 34cm wide, it is a useful shape for furniture with limited height above it. An open shelf, a low display cabinet or a coffee-table arrangement can all make good use of those proportions. Leave enough space on either side to enjoy the spreading branches.
An oval pot beneath a branching canopy
The dark oval container follows the horizontal line of the tree. Small decorative stones cover the base, providing a different texture beside the moulded roots and trunk. The pot has a traditional bonsai-style outline, with a wider rim and small feet that lift it slightly from the surface.
The foliage is artificial, so the carefully shaped canopy stays broadly the same throughout the year. There is no need to learn specialist pruning techniques or worry that a branch will grow into the space occupied by a neighbouring ornament.
Simple setup
The tree needs a little assembly before it is ready to display. Fit the trunk into the base carefully, supporting the pot, then ease apart any foliage that has been pressed together during packing. Give yourself room to turn the arrangement as you work so the branches do not catch on nearby objects.
Owners have found it straightforward to put together, although some have noticed that the connection at the base can remain visible. Positioning the most attractive face of the trunk towards the room helps make the most of the finished shape.
For a shelf that needs something softer
The low outline works well beside taller objects. Try a framed print behind it, or a small stack of books to one side, so the canopy can spread into the open space. A plain background shows off the pine foliage better than a crowded collection of small accessories.
Customers have enjoyed it as a desk or sideboard ornament and as a gift for someone who likes bonsai but does not want to care for a living tree. Reactions to the finish vary: it is a decorative plastic plant, with the overall silhouette doing much of the work.
A practical indoor ornament
A hallway or north-facing room is just as suitable as a bright windowsill because the tree needs no growing light. Keep it on a level indoor surface and dust the leaves gently as part of your normal cleaning routine. A small soft brush is useful around the stones and the bends in the trunk.
There is no watering, repotting or seasonal pruning involved. If you prefer a bonsai that fills a little width without adding much height, this low pine is a particularly handy shape to work with.
