Description

If the decorating is as enjoyable as the finished tree, this DTYDECLE set has plenty to keep you happily occupied. A small green tree comes with red and gold baubles, bows, candy canes, snowflakes and a star, giving you the ingredients for a traditional, cheerful Christmas display. A felt skirt finishes the base, so the little tree looks dressed from top to bottom.

Standing 60cm tall, it makes a manageable project for a spare table or an afternoon at home. You choose the arrangement, with enough variety to give the tree a different look each year.

A generous collection of decorations

The set includes thirteen red and gold baubles, twelve miniature bows, six plastic candy canes, six snowflakes, ten red berry pieces and four plastic pinecones. There is also a gold star topper, a Merry Christmas hanging decoration and a five-metre roll of gold tinsel.

You do not have to use everything at once. For a lighter look, start with the baubles and bows, then add a few candy canes where they can be seen clearly. For a fuller traditional display, weave the tinsel loosely through the branches, leaving enough greenery visible to keep the tree's shape.

Build the tree before dressing it

Fit the tree into its tripod base, then arrange the felt skirt around the stand. The base is approximately 20.5cm across, while the open branches can spread to around 39cm. Make sure the surface has room for that width before deciding on a permanent position.

The PVC branches need spreading by hand. Work from the lower branches upwards and adjust the top gently before adding the star. Lay out the ornaments before hanging them; having a little thread available can be useful when arranging any pieces without ready-attached hanging loops.

Finish with a little evening sparkle

A separate string of fairy lights is included and runs on two AA batteries, which are not supplied. Test it before wrapping it around the tree and handle the fine wire gently. Some customers find the lights subtle or would prefer a stronger glow, so leave clear spaces around them rather than burying them beneath tinsel and baubles.

Buyers appreciate the small size and the pleasure of putting the decorations together. It has been used on office desks, hallway units and kitchen displays. This is the red-and-gold green tree; another finish is available if you prefer a different look.

Place it indoors on a level surface, away from busy edges where the star or branches could be caught. After Christmas, take out the batteries and keep the small ornaments in a container together. The tree skirt, tinsel and topper can then be ready for the next year's decorating session, without the usual hunt for missing pieces.
